The Boundless Chipotle & Lime Activated Chips in Craft Gin Club’s March 2022 Gin of the Month box have inspired us to jazz up our Ginarita (which is a fabulous twist on a classic tequila-based Margarita) with a fiery touch of chilli.

This cocktail’s beautiful mix of warm chilli heat and vibrant, citrusy lime flavours work so well with the rich undertones of juniper from the gin and the orange glow of the Cointreau in this fantastic serve. We can’t wait for you to give it a go!

What’s in a traditional Margarita recipe?

A traditional Margarita recipe mixes tequila with fresh lime juice and orange liqueur. It can be served frozen (blended with ice like a Slushy), over ice in a tumbler or strained into a martini glass depending on your preference. It is also traditionally served with the rim of the glass coated with salt to balance against the sweet-and-sour flavour profile of the liquid.

Our Ginarita cocktail simply swaps the tequila for gin and this recipe then adds a warm hit of chilli. Yum!

Chilli Ginarita

Which gin should I use for this cocktail recipe? We recommend a citrus-forward craft gin like Ludlow Triple Citrus and Pomegranate Gin No. 2, as its unapologetically citrusy profile will only add to the refreshing, juiciness of the cocktail.

A good London Dry like Slingsby London Dry Gin will also work wonderfully too. Its delicious mix of citrus, floral and spice tones are a great complement to the other ingredients here.

Chilli Ginarita cocktail recipe

50ml gin
25ml lime juice
25ml Cointreau
Fresh chilli and lime, to garnish
Chilli salt, to rim the glass (equal parts chilli and flaky salt)

Wet the rim of your glass with lime juice and press against the chilli salt, making sure the chilli salt evenly coats the rim of the glass. Add the gin, lime juice and orange liqueur to a shaker or stirring glass with lots of ice. Stir well and then strain into your glass. Garnish, serve and enjoy!

The perfect snack to enjoy with this cocktail? Boundless Chipotle & Lime Activated Chips, of course! Their crunch and gorgeous seasoning make them a great accompaniment to many a gin cocktail. You can buy Boundless Chipotle & Lime Activated Chips on the Craft Gin Club online shop, here!
