We all know and love the classic Margarita and its potent Mexican-inspired mix of tequila, triple sec (orange liqueur) and fresh lime. Yum. It’s a classic cocktail for a reason!

Being fond of a bit of experimentation, here at Craft Gin Club, we thought we’d tweak the traditional recipe and come up with something equally refreshing and delicious, but using gin as the spirit base. The idea was that the botanicals in many gins would lend themselves perfectly to the citrus flavours of the orange liqueur and lime juice!

A few experiments later, et voila! Here we have it: the Ginarita. It's a deliciously tart, zingy and supremely satisfying drink that had us all dreaming of hot sandy beaches and waves lapping at our feet. All that’s left is to mix yourself one for instant holiday vibes!

Better still, you can get everything you need to make this divine cocktail on our online shop - just shop the bundle right here.

A summer sip that’s super-easy to get your hands on. Shaker at the ready - cheers!

Ginarita

50ml gin
25ml orange liqueur
25ml lime juice
Fresh lime, to garnish
Salt flakes or Tajin, to rim glass*

Wet the rim of a glass and press it firmly in a saucer of salt flakes (or tajin) to rim the edge. Pop lots of large ice cubes into your rimmed glass. Fill a shaker with ice and add the gin, orange liqueur and lime juice. Shake and strain the drink into your glass. Garnish with a slice of lime (cucumber also works great as a garnish for this cocktail!).

*Tajin is a chilli lime salt commonly used as a seasoning in Mexico. To make it at home, combine 1 tbsp chilli powder, 1 tsp lime zest, 1/2 tsp of ground cumin, 1/4 tsp each of cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, ground coriander and salt with 1/8 tsp of sugar.

We used Seppeltsfield Rd Distillers House Gin to make this cocktail: citrusy, floral and herbaceous, this fabulous craft gin is from Australia’s beautiful Barossa Valley and was Craft Gin Club’s February 2021 Cocktail of the Month. It is divine!
