Cocktail: French 75

One of our favourite gin cocktails, the gorgeously refreshing and bubbly French 75. The drink is said to be named after a 75mm gun used in the first World War; it has such a kick, that it was once said it felt like being hit by the weapon!

French 75 gin and prosecco cocktail

Ingredients:

30ml gin
15ml lemon juice
15ml simple syrup*
Champagne (or other sparkling wine)

Method:

  1. Add the gin, lemon juice and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker and fill with ice.
  2. Shake for about five seconds.
  3. Strain into a champagne flute and top with ice cold Champagne or sparkling wine for one of the best ways to kick off a dinner. 

*Simple Syrup - warm equal parts of sugar and water so it dissolves then let it cool. Can be stored, sealed, in the fridge for 4-6 months.
