Inspired by the original White Russian, which is traditionally made with vodka, cream and coffee liqueur, our Hazelnut Russian recipe is a festive mix of hazelnut liqueur (Frangelico is our favourite), gin, Tia Maria coffee liqueur and cream. It’s perfect for enjoying through Christmas and beyond!
The rich notes of coffee liqueur complement the sweetly nutty hazelnut liqueur, while gin adds a delightful undercurrent of juniper. Encased in velvety cream, this decadent tipple is a total treat - in fact, anyone who sees you making this gorgeous Christmas cocktail will definitely want to try one too, so we reckon it’s best to double or even triple this easy recipe if you have guests over the festive season!
What gin should I use in this cocktail recipe?
We recommend using Downpour Coast & Croft Gin, Craft Gin Club’s November 2022 Gin of the Month, in this cocktail recipe.
Full of fragrant herb and umami-rich pepper dulse tones, this wonderful gin works so well with the nutty Frangelico and aromatic coffee liqueur. Together, they make for an indulgent mix of savoury and sweet that is simply divine.
Hazelnut Russian
40ml gin
20ml coffee liqueur
20ml hazelnut liqueur like Frangelico
40ml single cream
Add all the ingredients to a mixing glass with ice. Stir to combine and chill. Strain into a rocks glass with ice and serve.
