Strawberries and cream, Fred and Ginger, bread and butter - some things were made to go together, just like gin and tonic! That is why, as a member of Craft Gin Club, you will receive not only a full sized bottle of craft gin but a selection of tonics in your Gin of the Month box. We want to give you everything you need for the perfect G&T!
However, gone are the days of just a crisp or classic tonic to mix with your favourite craft gin. There are now an array of flavoured tonics available for gin fans to experiment with and here at Craft Gin Club we are all about discovering interesting and exciting flavour combinations! Plus, due to the hundreds of varieties of gins now on the market, it seems right to be able to be a little more adventurous with what you are mixing them with!
Tonic started its life as a prophylactic against malaria , where British officials stationed in India would mix quinine with soda and sugar to tone down the bitterness of the powered tree bark.
These days some of us love that bitterness, whereas others will mix their gins with sweeter alternatives like rose lemonade, orange juice or even apple juice!
If you don't want to lose the 'T' in your G&T, there are now plenty of flavoured tonics available where the quinine isn't as prominent a flavour.
These are some of our favourites and the best gins to serve them with:
Merchant's Heart Hibiscus Tonic
A balance of fruity and citrus-forward flavours, this pretty pink tonic provides a wonderful contrasting flavour profile. The core citrus of lemon and lime is complimented by a soft hint of hibiscus flowers. The hibiscus is also supported with a touch of pear that rounds out the flavour and brings a little more body to it.
50ml Naud Gin
150ml Merchant’s Heart Hibiscus Tonic
Rose petals or dried hibiscus flowers, to garnish
Fentiman’s Valencian Orange Tonic
Made with beautifully sweet Valencian oranges and infused with Lemongrass, this mixer is perfectly rounded with a hint of quinine for a refreshing and aromatic tonic water. Pairs perfectly with citrus and herbaceous gins.
35ml Dry Island Gin
120ml Fentimans Valencian Orange Tonic Water
Orange peel to garnish
Double Dutch Cucumber & Watermelon Tonic
A slightly sweet aroma with a fresh and cool scent. While cucumber traditionally mixes well with gin, the watermelon in this tonic really lifts the citrus notes of gin and adds another level of freshness.
50ml of Osmoz Citrus Gin
120ml Double Dutch Cucumber & Watermelon Tonic
Strawberry slices and basil leaves to garnish
Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water
By blending the essential oils from the flowers, fruits and herbs gathered from around the Mediterranean shores with highest-quality quinine from the 'fever trees' of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the result is a delicate, floral tonic water.
50ml Bordiga’s Occitan Gin
150ml Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic
Orange and lemon slices, to garnish
London Essence Grapefruit & Rosemary
A precise balance of crisp grapefruit oils and distilled rosemary essence, with a hint of quinine. This pairs well with citrus led gins and, if you feel adventurous, discover how it complements the bitterness of aperitifs.
35ml 58 Gin
120ml bottle of London Essence Co Grapefruit and Rosemary Tonic
Douglas Fir pine sprigs and dried barberries, to garnish
Schweppes Muscavdo Sugar Tonic
Naturally flavoured to deliver hints of vanilla, caramel and butterscotch, the muscavdo sugar tonic mixes superbly well with spiced and winter gins.
50ml Tarquins Cornish Gin
120ml Schweppes 1783 Muscovado,
Orange slice, to garnish
Lamb and Watt Basil Tonic
The Lamb & Watt Basil Tonic Water is a beautifully savoury mixer, which pairs perfectly with herbaceous gins to deliver just the right amount of quinine amongst a refreshing basil flavour, with a long, dry, satisfying finish.
