40% ABV

Head Distiller, Rick Hoedjes.

How is Forty Spotted Tasmanian Classic Gin made?

Forty Spotted Tasmanian classic gin is distilled by Forty Spotted Distillery’s Rock Hoedjes.

The spicy, tangy pepper berries are the star of the show – and, as Forty Spotted’s signature botanical, a throughline through the range of gins that Rick oversees.

Hardy and flavourful, the pepper berries go straight into the pot still with ruby grapefruit, juniper and coriander seed. The rest of the botanicals go into the basket, like the makrut lime leaf and frankincense.

Once the spirit is suffused with the botanical flavours and scents of Tasmania, it’s diluted with the island’s pure water.

Just breath taking…

This month’s gin takes its name from the forty-spotted pardalote. These beautiful birds are some of the rarest in the world, you have to travel to Tasmania to spot them!

Here is the complete list of botanicals used to create Forty Spotted Tasmanian Classic Gin: Tasmanian Pepperberry, Tasmanian Pepperberry Leaf, Juniper, Coriander Seed, Ruby Grapefruit, Bergamot, Makrut Lime Leaf, Ruby Grapefruit Peel, Lemon Peel, Coriander, Ginger, and Frankincense.

Where is Forty Spotted Tasmanian Classic Gin made?

Forty Spotted Tasmanian Classic Gin is made at Forty Spotted Distillery in Tasmania, which is surrounded by the beauty of Tasmanian wine country, set amongst vineyards and rolling hills.

What does Forty Spotted Tasmanian Classic Gin taste like?

Deeply aromatic and delicious, Forty Spotted's Tasmanian Classic Gin is a very Aussie twist on a classic London Dry. Native pepperberry runs through the expression, from the initial nose to a lengthy finish. It's supported by bright citrus on the palate as the makrut lime leaves open up and intermingle with the pepperberry notes, leaving a distinctive expression.

What other gins does Forty Spotted Tasmanian Classic Gin make?

The memories evoked by the island inspired the Forty Spotted flock of gins, including the following exquisite blends. While they are not yet available in the UK, watch this space!

Forty Spotted Wild Rose Gin:

Inspired by memories of enjoying musk sticks (a floral Aussie confectionery) poolside on hot summer days, it has fragrant floral flavours (of violet and rose) with lingering notes of juniper, citrus and fairy-pink musk sticks.

Forty Spotted Pinot Noir Gin:

Inspired by fond childhood memories of playing amongst a family friend’s vineyard it’s got a sweet, fruity combination of Tasmania’s finest, full-bodied pinot noir grapes. There are hints of a delicate citrus tangle with dark berries and plums - it’s simply divine.

Forty Spotted Citrus & Pepperberry Gin:

Inspired by a foraging expedition with a local indigenous group in search of Oyster Bay Pine, the notes of Oyster Bay Pine form a bridge between juniper and juicy citrus notes - the refreshing peppery flavour is followed by a long citrusy finish of orange and tangerine. Mmm!
