How is Mapmaker's Coastal Spiced Rum made?

Mapmaker's Coastal Spiced Rum is made by husband-and-wife team Martin and Claire Murrey and their team at Dunnet Bay Distillers.

The rum takes its inspiration from and is an ode to the 17th-century cartographer Timothy Pont. He was famed for travelling around Scotland, creating one of the first detailed maps of the country.

To capture that spirit of adventure and celebrate Scotland's history, the team Dunnet Bay Distillers use a blend of their twice-distilled House Rum, specially selected Caribbean rum and water from Loch Caldar for the base of this edition.

They then age the blend with local botanical ingredients like Scottish sea salt, kelp, lemon verbena and scurvy grass.

We wanted to use elements that matched our rum perfectly. We learned that we could use these strong coastal flavours and balance them with that characteristic rum fruitiness and sweet and spiced flavours from the Caribbean rum.

Where is Mapmaker's Coastal Spiced Rum distilled?

This fabulous craft spiced rum is distilled at the Dunnet Bay Distillers' distillery in Dunnet Bay, Caithness, on the most northern coastline of Scottland.

What does Mapmaker's Coastal Spiced Rum taste like?

This beautifully blended rum is well-rounded and bursting with bright citrus flavours that are seasoned with a delicious touch of oceanic salinity and a hint of caramel sweetness.

A dash of peppery spice adds a subtle heat, which is balanced by a dash of mellow vanilla.

Overall, the flavour profile is delectably complex, rich and inviting. It's sure to impress any rum fan!

How do you serve Mapmaker's Coastal Spiced Rum?

We recommend serving Mapmaker's Coastal Spiced Rum with Bon Accord Bona-Cola and a slice of fresh lime, to garnish.

The sweet, aromatic cola is the perfect partner to Mapmaker's Coastal Spiced Rum's rich collection of spice tones while the lime adds a burst of fresh citrus that lifts the whole experience.

We also recommend using Mapmaker's Coastal Spiced Rum in both classic and creative rum cocktail recipes like Craft Gin Club's Compass Star, which combines the rum with Frobishers Mango Juice and our very own Compass Star Cocktail Syrup.

This cocktail is full of juicy, tropical fruit flavours that are complemented wonderfully by the caramel and spice of the rum. It is not to be missed!
