3 easy cocktail recipes to make any olive-lover swoon!

Olly’s Olives are making the humble green olive glorious with their delectable flavours of Chilli & Rosemary, Lemon & Thyme and Basil & Garlic. A foodie’s dream, they are a perfectly balanced cacophony of lip-smacking savoury tastes. They make for the perfect accompaniments to a gin cocktail or two, which is why we just had to include them in our May 2020 Gin of the Month box for our members to try!

We have loved experimenting with Olly’s Olives to find the perfect cocktails to match each flavour. These pairings provide the ultimate at-home drinking experience that will make you feel like you are in the world’s most luxury bars. Nothing can be quite as sophisticated or suave as nibbling on olives and sipping away at a Gin Rickey, Martini or Red Snapper at home!

Gin Rickey

This cocktail, with its lime forward profile, works so wonderfully as a partner to Olly’s Olives Chilli & Rosemary Green Olives. That appetising mix of gin, zesty citrus, chilly heat and woody herb flavours from the rosemary is a heavenly delight!

Gin Rickey Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients

50ml gin (La Distillerie De Monaco Gin aux Agrumes is great here, but any other citrus-forward gin will also be delicious).
10ml sugar syrup
100ml soda water
25ml lime juice
1 lime wedge

Method

First, make your sugar syrup: All that you need to do is warm through 100ml of water and 100g of sugar until the sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool before use.

Martini

A martini is most likely the first thing that popped into your mind when we started talking about combining olives and cocktails. The dirty martini is certainly a winner in our book, however, for a cleaner drinking experience, we have kept Olly’s Olives Lemon & Thyme separate from the alcohol so that the full range of their rich, complex flavours can be enjoyed. So revel over the citrus and herb flavour of these olives and then wash it down with the clean aromatic martini. Delicious!

Martini Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients

50ml gin (La Distillerie De Monaco Gin aux Agrumes is a good compliment to the citrus in the olives, but any other London dry gin could also work - Boatyard Double Gin is one of our favourites to use in a martini).
10ml dry vermouth
lemon rind twirl, to garnish

Method

Stir the gin and vermouth with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with the lemon rind.

Red Snapper

Nothing goes better with the soft herb flavours of basil and the warm tones of garlic than the savoury, fruity aromas of tomato. That triumvirate of Italian cuisine is a tried and tested mix that never fails! It’s no wonder that Olly’s Olives Basil & Garlic work so wondrously well with a red snapper then.

Red Snapper Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients

45ml gin (we recommend a flavoursome London dry like Altitude Gin)
60ml tomato juice
20ml lime juice
Tabasco, a dash (depending on how hot you like it)
15ml Worcestershire sauce
salt and pepper
lime wheel, to garnish

Method

Dip the rim of your serving glass in gin and then a mix of salt and pepper on a plate until the lip is evenly coated in salt and pepper. Leave to dry. Combine all liquid ingredients in a large glass. Add ice and stir to chill. Pour into another glass or shaker and then back into the original glass (this helps to make the texture of the cocktail deliciously smooth). Pour into your serving glass and garnish with the lime wheel.
