When the sun comes out there’s nothing we love more than enjoying these three fabulous gin and cider cocktails in the garden, especially when the cider is from Thatchers.

We sent our lucky members Thatchers Rosé or Thatchers Haze in their May 2021 Gin of the Month box because we think they are absolutely perfect for cocktails like these. After all, there’s no better way to kick of late spring or early summer than by sipping cider and gin al fresco.

All three of these tasty tipples are easy to make and ideal for drinking outdoors.

Cider 75

A twist on a French 75, using cider instead of champagne, this gorgeous cocktail is fruity, citrusy and completely refreshing.

The crisp, sweet apple notes of Thatchers Haze, which is made with delicious Discovery, Falstaff, Gala and Jonagold apples, works so well with the piney juniper of a good craft London Dry gin. The simple syrup then adds a mellow sweetness and the lemon juice brightens up the whole experience.

Ingredients

45ml gin
20ml lemon juice
10ml simple syrup
100ml Thatchers Haze
Apple slices and cinnamon sticks, to garnish (optional)

Method

Add the first three ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a champagne glass and top with Thatchers Haze. Garnish and serve.

Rosé & Gin

Thatchers Rosé, with its authentic sweet apple flavours, which come from rosy-red dessert apples like Cripps Pink, Fuji and Gala, is the perfect cider for this blushing cocktail. The Angostura Orange Bitters and the gin then add an utterly moreish depth and complexity to the cocktail and the lime juice elevates the drink with a sprightly touch of citrus tang that is taken further by the lemon garnish.

15ml lime juice
100ml Thatchers Rosé
2 dash Angostura Orange Bitters
Lemon slices, to garnish
Edible wildflowers, to garnish (optional)

Method

Combine all ingredients in a glass with ice, garnish and serve - it couldn’t be easier!

Thatchers Spritz

This is a fruity Spritz recipe that allows for some creativity on your part as it can work with either Thatchers Haze or Rosé (or any other Thatchers cider) and is great for playing around with your favourite cocktail garnishes. It’s perfect for quaffing on a sunny afternoon as a pre-dinner aperitif.
