If you’re a gin lover who relishes diving to the bottom of a bottle, and the ginvigoration of a good dram, you just might enjoy a Christmas swim. Yes, it’s cold as ice, and a little out there (just like a good cocktail!). But joining the hearty Cornish locals who do this yearly for charity is a smashing way to top off 2018. So head to the beach take a leap of faith!

But be safe! Never go it alone (it’s more fun with a pal anyhow), and have your warmest clothes on hand.

What to see?

Every December for the last 50 years, Mousehole has been transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland thanks to its twinkling Christmas lights. The displays which float in the harbour make for an especially magical vision. Over 40 displays, composed of over 10,000 bulbs, draw visitors from all over the world to their narrow, winding streets. Not quite what you’d expect from a quaint fishing village!

Rick and Jill Stein’s bar has an ambience which is cosy and Cornish. Go to Ruby’s Bar to toast 2018 in style with a gin libation, as the year burns out in a blaze of Christmassy glory! It’s splendid in December, as Rick Stein knows well that people long for an “atmosphere imbued with heartfelt celebration during the dark days of winter”. Ruby’s outstanding collection of 30 gins includes Tarquin’s Rick Stein Gin, which is created from wild chamomile which grows on the Cornish Coast. For an unforgettable December, sample the Gin Highball or Ruby Fizz, which are masterfully crafted by renowned bartender Mr. Lyon.
