Early summer sees the arrival of plump, sweet-sharp strawberries on shop shelves around the UK. Make the most of these delicious little fruits while they are in season with this yummy twist on the standard gin and tonic!
Here at Craft Gin Club we are always looking for new and unusual ways to enjoy gin, and this is one of our favourites. Black pepper is perhaps a surprising ingredient - but it works! The spicy peppercorns marry beautifully with the sweetness of the strawberries and brings out the spicy, citrus notes in the gin. Refreshing, light and with a little spice, it’s the ideal tipple for a sunny summer afternoon in the garden.
Strawberry and Black Pepper Gin & Tonic
(Makes one G&T)
Freshly ground black pepper
45ml gin (go for a neutral or citrussy one)
(*You could also use elderflower tonic, for a sweeter drink)
Wash and hull the strawberries. Slice in half, or into quarters if they’re big. Muddle the strawberries with a good twist of freshly ground black pepper in a shaker, then pour into an ice-filled glass. Stir in the gin and top with tonic. Garnish with a strawberry and serve!
