Elephant Gin origin

What is Elephant Gin?

Elephant Gin is a craft gin distillery devoted to keeping African elephants from extinction by donating 15% of the proceeds from the sale of each of the gins in their range to foundations like the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, The Wildlife Spirit and Big Life Foundation, all of which work in conservation in Africa.

So far, they have raised over €1,000,000 for elephant conservation projects!

And to help raise awareness, they name each batch of gin after a real-life African elephant. The batch they created for Craft Gin Club’s September 2016 Gin of the Month box was called Mshale.

Where is Elephant Gin from?

Elephant Gin is from Hamburg, Germany. However, it is inspired by Africa and is distilled using botanicals unique to Africa, including Buchu, Lion’s Tail and Devil’s Claw.

Who makes Elephant Gin?

Elephant Gin is made by the Elephant Gin distillery, which was founded by German husband-and-wife team Tessa and Robin Gerlach.

What gins does Elephant Gin make?

Elephant Gin has four fabulous craft gins in its range and they are:

Elephant Gin African Explorer
The ten-year Anniversary Special Edition!

Elephant Gin African Explorer

This limited-edition expression further highlights African ingredients from across the continent, using freshly sourced aromatic African buchu leaves from South Africa, white ginger and Mondora (African nutmeg) from Cameroon, among other botanicals including grapefruit. It’s truly special!

Elephant Gin London Dry

Elephant Gin UK

Elephant Gin’s signature edition, this beautiful, award-winning craft gin is wonderfully smooth and has a sumptuous mix of floral, fruit and spice tones that complement that quintessential London dry juniper base remarkably well.

It is fantastic sipped neat, in a G&T (see below) and used in classic gin cocktails.

Elephant Gin Orange Cocoa

Elephant Gin Orange Cocoa

With the rich, smooth, complexity of Elephant Gin’s London dry edition as its base, this unique and creative gin has a mouthwatering mix of zesty, sweet orange tones and velvety, chocolatey cocoa flavours - which come from the use of fresh oranges and gently roasted cocoa beans as botanical ingredients. It’s like orange chocolate in gin form!

No gin fan will want to miss this stunning edition.

Elephant Sloe Gin

Elephant Sloe Gin

This is a must-try sloe gin for any gin lover. Made by macerating fresh, wild sloe berries in Elephant London Dry Gin, this tasty tipple is brimming with juicy sloe flavours that are rich yet light and sweet.

What’s more, this edition is made with less sugar than your average sloe gin and it has a higher alcohol content than your average sloe gin too (see below). This makes it perfect for mixing with tonic and other mixers in cocktail recipes.

Elephant Strength Gin

Elephant Gin Navy Strength

This Navy Strength gin is distilled using the exact same botanicals as their London Dry Gin, however, a much larger quantity of each botanical is used and the gin has a much higher volume of alcohol too (see below). This means the gin is punchier than its London dry counterpart, yet is just as smooth

Because of that bigger hit of flavour and higher ABV, this gin is a magnificent cocktail ingredient and is just as delicious in a simple G&T too.
