But did you know that in recent years, Finland has also become notable for its more cultural and aesthetic aspects? Look no further than the capital of Helsinki for proof – it’s become the mecca for art, design and drinks! These Instagram accounts showcase some of the best this amazing city has to offer, so grab your phone and get scrolling.

You may be used to icy snaps of Finland, but photographer Omar El Mrabt has managed to capture a completely different side to Finnish life. Based in Helsinki, he takes bright and colourful photos of some of the city’s most beautiful spots. People, places and things all feature in Omar’s snaps, so they’re great for really capturing the spirit of the whole city – and after scrolling through a few of his gorgeous photos, you’re sure to be bit by the travel bug!

Markus Sillanpää is a Finnish bartender and sommelier who has won multiple awards for his mixology skills. His Instagram is a cocktail lover’s dream, featuring delicious looking drinks made mostly with gin. Markus started his Instagram not too long ago and updates it pretty regularly, so keep an eye out for more tasty tipples to come!

One of the hottest spots in Helsinki, Lilla E’s (‘E’ for ‘Elephant’) Instagram gives you a peek into the world behind this cocktail bar. The cocktail shots are nothing short of spectacular, with unique garnishes and beautiful glasses framing some incredibly cool cocktails. Owners Pekka, Turo and Jarkko run their bar with the idea that ‘good’ is not enough and ‘normal’ is an unknown concept. It’s a philosophy that shines through the beautiful snaps on their Instagram account.

Helsinki is arguable one of the best cities in the world for design lovers – it was even named the World Design Capital for 2012!
