A Sip by the Sea: How the Perfect Potato Chip Can Make Cocktails Sing

From the jewels of coastal England – Devon and Cornwall – come potato chips like no other. Rich with the spirit of the southwest and hand-cooked by experienced craftsmen, Burts Firecracker Lobster Chips are an elegant balance between land and sea. And paired with the perfect gin cocktail, they truly sing.

Burts Firecracker Lobster Chips Crisps

Every great gin – from the botanical blend to the bottle the spirit lives in – comes with an unmistakable sense of where it’s made. But few potato chips could say the same, until Burts Chips started up on the south coast of England.

In Devon and Cornwall, where English cliffs meet the wide Atlantic sea, the master fryers behind every bag of Burts Chips are hard at work hand-selecting and thickly slicing the finest Cornish potatoes, sourcing the best local ingredients to create an amazing array of thick-cut potato chips that they’re chuffed to say are the pride of the South-West.

The Burts Firecracker Lobster Potato Chips in our June Gin of the Month box are a symphony of rich South-Western flavours, using chilli sourced directly from the South Devon Chilli Farm and luxurious lobster, spiced until it sings in perfect harmony.

Delicious on their own, you may be surprised to discover that these chips will bring out the best in your gin. Hand-fried by a passionate team and flavoured to perfection, Burts Chips elevate the savoury botanicals in your gin with an inescapable sense of place – especially when paired with the cocktail below.

As Simon Knight of Burts says, “A good cocktail is the same as a good snack – it has to have the right balance of ingredients and textures to be truly satisfying.”

He continues: “This perfect cocktail recipe balances the palate combining notes of land and sea as you enjoy your Firecracker Lobster Chips.  The Burts South-West 75 is just the ticket. All you need to do is mix one up and relax."

With a generous measure of gin, the quintessential English spirit, and topped up with effervescent English sparkling wine, this is a cocktail as rooted in place as the Burts Chips in your Gin of the Month box – and you’ll find that they make the perfect pair.
