Not that we need a reason to enjoy our delicious Aussie The West Winds Gin any old day, but if you were looking for an excuse, Australia Day is the perfect one!
Here are a few perfect concoctions from The West Winds Gin team to raise a toast to our cousins down under this evening. Cheers!
Fantagroni
"A twist on the bartenders favourite bringing together the height of cocktology with the murky origins of Fanta.."
Ingredients: 30 ml The West Winds Gin The Sabre, 30ml Maidenii Sweet vermouth, 10ml Campari
Build over ice in a slick, tall glass, add some more ice and top with Fanta.
The Aviation
"The Aviation cocktail is a straight up classic from the turn of last century and can be made at home by the family dog."
Ingredients: 45ml The West Winds Gin The Sabre, 15ml lemon juice, 15ml maraschino liqueur, 1 barspoon* of Creme de Violette
Add all ingredients to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled coupette or martini glass. Cherry garnish.
* if you wish to include Violette drizzle into the drink
Floradora
"This forgotten classic was named after a Broadway musical but in our eyes is a really easy party starter. Ah built drinks never got so good. We love this drink as you can’t mess it up but if 10 friends front up for a cheeky backyard session it’s a perfect sipper you can make real quick."
Ingredients: 45ml The West Winds Gin The Sabre, 15ml Cassis, 15ml lime juice
Build over ice in a highball and top with dry ginger ale.
Gin Refashioned
"Who says an old fashioned has to be made with dark spirits? Enjoy gin close to straight but tweaked a little."
Ingredients: 50 ml The West Winds Gin The Sabre, 2 dashes lemon bitters, Lemon peel, Castor sugar
Muddle bitters, peels, sugar and 10 ml gin in an old fashioned glass then slowly stir adding ice and remaining gin over 6 mins.
The Cutlass Cocktail
"Our take on the timeless drink of UK naval officers, The Gimlet using Roses Lime Marmalade, due to the fact some big corporate type won’t allow the original Roses Lime Cordial on Aussie shores. Did you know they were commissioned to create the stuff to transport vitamin C around the world? True story."
Ingredients: 60ml The West Winds Gin The Cutlass, 25ml lime juice, 1 heaped barspoon Roses Marmalade, 3 basil leaves
Shake and double strain into a martini glass and then garnish with a basil leaf. Use a fine strainer to avoid those awkward green bits in your teeth that your date ends up pointing out.
The New Blue
"Something old, something new, something borrowed, always drink blue. Put some fun back in your drinking and put that blue Curacao back to use."
Ingredients: 45ml The Sabre, 30ml Lemon juice, 15ml blue Curacao
Build in a tall glass over ice, top with soda, and garnish with foraged greens.
