Hair-of-the-dog gin cocktails for New Year's Day brunch

The end of the old year and the start of the new certainly calls for a bit of ginny celebration! However, if all that over-indulgence leaves you feeling less than perky the next day, sometimes there's nothing for it than a dose of the hair of the dog that bit you! These concoctions are perfect for a restorative New Year's Day brunch - then it's up to you whether you go for a bracing walk or just sneak back under the covers...HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Red Snapper

January 1st is Bloody Mary Day - and we think this gin-based version is even better than the original!

Red Snapper gin bloody mary cocktail with tomato juice and celery

45ml Gin
60ml Tomato juice
20ml Lemon juice
Few drops of Tabasco, to taste
15ml Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper

Combine all ingredients in a large glass. Add ice and stir to chill. Garnish with a celery stalk, lemon wedge, salt and fresh cracked pepper. 

 

Breakfast Martini

Who needs marmalade on your toast when you can have it in your Martini? 

Breakfast martini with orange marmalade four pillars gin cocktail

60ml Gin
20ml Lemon juice
1tbsp Orange Marmalade
Orange peel, to garnish

Chill your Martini glass well. Mix gin and marmalade in a shaker until the latter has dissolved. Top with lemon juice and lots of ice, shake well and strain into your cold Martini glass. Top with an orange twist.

This classic "hangover-cure" cocktail is refreshing, astringent and strong enough to revive you from even the toughest morning-after suffering.

30ml gin
30ml Cocchi Americano or Lillet Blanc
30ml Cointreau
30ml fresh lemon juice
1 dash absinthe
Orange peel, for garnish

Shake all ingredients together in an ice-filled cocktail shaker; strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with orange peel.

Silver fizz lemon flavoured gin cocktail

60ml gin
30ml lemon juice
1 teaspoon caster sugar
1 egg white
Soda water

Shake all ingredients vigorously with ice, then strain into a tall glass and top with chilled soda water.
