Inspired by the amazing range of mixers and drinks created by the remarkable team at Sanpellegrino, whose sumptuous Citrus Tonic we sent Craft Gin Clubbers in their November 2022 Gin of the Month box, we have been adding a little fizz to some of our favourite Italian cocktail recipes!
Fizzy Italian Spitz recipes like the Campari or Aperol Spritz are already famed throughout the world, of course. They are perfect for enjoying at that pre-dinner “aperitivo moment” with your friends and family.
But what happens when you add a little fizz to a Gin & It or a Negroni or a Garibaldi? Well, we have been finding out using Sanpellegrino Light Tonic, Ginger Beer and Aranciata and the results are sublime.
You need to give these three amazing twists on classic Italian cocktails a go at your next get-together they are a fantastic new way to enjoy that aperitivo moment!
Gin & It Spritz
Traditionally, the Gin & It is made with a delicious mix of gin, sweet vermouth (often Martini Rosso) and bitters. We have lifted that rich, syrupy mix with Sanpellegrino Tonica Light. This light tonic water is delicate and crisp, giving this Gin & It recipe a refreshing, bubbly finish that is usually reserved for spritz. It’s a must-try!
50ml gin
50ml sweet vermouth
Dash of Angostura Orange bitters
Sanpellegrino Light Tonic, to top
Add the gin, vermouth and bitters to a glass with lots of ice and stir well. Top with the tonic, garnish and enjoy!
Sparkling Ginger Negroni
Usually made with equal parts gin, sweet vermouth and Campari, the Negroni is a deep, bitter-sweet cocktail that’s perfect for sipping.
Here, we’ve added the mouthwateringly zesty, vibrant and slightly spicy ginger tones of Sanpellegrino Ginger Beer to the mix. This fabulous mixer from Sanpellegrino not only adds fun fizz to this normally smooth cocktail, but it also complements those complex Negroni tones brilliantly, providing a sumptuous contrast that is lively and refreshing.
50ml gin
50ml sweet vermouth
50ml Campari
Sanpellegrino Ginger Beer, to top
Add the gin, vermouth and Campari to a glass with lots of ice and stir well. Top with ginger beer. Garnish and enjoy!
Garibaldi Fizz
The easily Italian cocktail on this list, the Garibaldi is a simple yet effective mix of Campari and orange juice. By using Sanpellegrino Aranciata, an orange juice with expertly crafted, gentle bubbles, and a flavour palate that introduces notes of juicy, sweet and caramelised citrus tones, we have added layers of flavour and texture to this marvellous cocktail. It is not to be missed!
