Four beautiful cocktails to make with Wessex Alfred the Great Gin

This month we are celebrating a oft-overlooked historical era, where magic, folk wisdom and mystery prevailed! Alfred the Great Gin from the Wessex Distillery was created with this great king in mind and a lot of the botanicals in the liquid were used throughout his reign for medicinal and magical purposes. These four classic gin cocktails all have a magical twist so are the perfect royal recipes to feature September’s mystical Gin of the Month!
The Anglo Saxon
Ingredients:
20ml Wessex Alfred the Great Gin
1 sugar cube
3-4 dashes orange bitters
70ml British sparkling wine
Method:
Add your gin, sugar cube and orange bitters to a champagne flute. Top up with sparkling wine and serve.
Alfred the Great
Ingredients:
25ml Wessex Alfred the Great Gin
75ml ruby grapefruit juice
1 tsp honey
Method:
Add your gin and honey to a cocktail shaker and stir until the honey is dissolved. Add ice and ruby grapefruit juice. Shake and strain into a martini glass.
Royal Fleet

Ingredients:
50ml Wessex Alfred the Great Gin
20ml lime juice
15ml honey syrup*
3 dashes of chocolate bitters (optional)
Method:
Add all your ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously with ice. Strain into a martini glass and serve.
*Combine 50ml of water and 50ml honey in a saucepan. Place over medium heat and simmer until the honey dissolves. Cool, refrigerate and use within two weeks
Wessex Negroni
Ingredients:
25ml Wessex Alfred the Great Gin
25ml red vermouth
25ml Campari
Wedge of lemon, to garnish
Method:
Pour all ingredients over ice in a rocks glass. Stir gently, garnish and serve.
