How is Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum made?
Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum is made by Liza Cordero, Master Blender at Destilería Serrallés, with the help of her mentor and colleague Silvia Santiago, the first female Master Blender in Puerto Rico.

All Don Q rums have a base made out of carefully selected molasses and yeast, which create the esters and congeners that give Don Q's spirit its iconic flavours. They then are all aged in charred American white oak barrels for at least one year to impart flavour and character.
The interaction between the wood and the rum matures and mellows the spirit and gives it a delicate vanilla flavour, along with a hint of coconut and a creamy texture.
What makes Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum special is that it is a blend of three rums aged for at least three years in those white oak barrels, giving it a remarkable depth of flavour and complexity.
This blend of rums, all well-aged, gives Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum its rich, golden hues and warming, baked spice flavours like vanilla and cinnamon, along with the unmistakable notes of caramel and toasted coffee.
Ageing in Puerto Rico imparts a unique colour, aroma and taste to the rum. It’s during this step that the rum develops its character. The blend in our spiced rum is also a very special and complex one and each ingredient is added in a specific order, at a specific step in the process. We wanted the spices to be noticeable but not overpower the classic flavours our rum is known for.

What does Don Q Oak Barrel Spiced Rum taste like?
This golden-hued rum is rich and smooth, with plenty of warming cinnamon spice and a hint of vanilla on the nose. On the palate, sweet butterscotch flavours are balanced with toasted coffee, candied ginger and fruity pear.
