Celebrate National Dessert Day with 5 gin dessert cocktails

Just when you were getting used to your diet, society comes along and creates something like National Dessert Day - in the States at least. We suggest celebrating it just the same! You’ve been doing so well eating your greens and exercising, cutting yourself just one slice of chocolate cake won’t hurt, will it? While you ponder that question, why not mix a dessert drink to help you decide. After all, you maintained some sort of sanity during your healthy kick by not giving up cocktails. Rejoice in your dessert!

Limoncello Martini

The “Martini” in martini comes from the Italian Vermouth. Although the traditional martini is meant to use dry vermouth to complement the gin, this recipe employs another, sweeter Italian creation and will cool you off after a big meal.

  • 1 part limoncello
  • 1 part gin
  • lemon twist

Pink Panties

For those ladies looking to digest after a long meal with their girlfriends, this version of the Pink Panties will settle your stomach and keep the conversation lubricated, although not necessarily about the eponymous undergarments.

  • 12oz. pink lemonade concentrate
  • 12oz. gin
  • 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup crushed ice

Buttermilk Maple Gin Flip

The use of cream in modern-day Flip recipes is optional whereas an egg, separated whites and yolk, and sugar give the drink its identifiable characteristic. This recipe opts for something creamy, but uses buttermilk instead of double cream, and sugary, but goes for maple syrup for extra sweetness.

  • 2oz gin
  • 1oz buttermilk
  • 1/2oz maple syrup
  • 1 whole egg, separated
  • nutmeg

Gin and Honey

Nothing’s as sweet as honey - especially when you mix it with gin! Although the recipe doesn’t call for it specifically, a spiced gin would complement the ingredients nicely.

  • 1 1/2oz grapefruit juice
  • 1oz gin
  • 1/2oz honey
  • top up with champagne and rosé wine

  • 2oz gin
  • 1/8 cup fresh blackberries
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/8 cup lime juice
